The Chiefs ultimately lost to the Denver Broncos

Kelce said he was feeling "a lot of emotions" after the game, though avoided directly confirming retirement

Travis Kelce might have just played the final home game of his 13-year NFL career.

Kelce was visibly emotional during the Kansas City Chiefs Christmas day game against the Broncos on Thursday, especially as the team lost 20-13 to the Denver team. For the first time in 10 years, the Chiefs won't make it to the playoffs with their season record now at 6-10. And with Kelce at the end of his contract with the Chiefs, there's speculation he'll retire after their final game on Jan. 4.

With that in mind, Kelce's Dec. 25 game could be his last home game at Arrowhead Stadium.

"A whole lot of emotions," Kelce, 36, told reporters during a postgame press conference, according to the . "You've got everybody in the world watching you. You get to go out there with the young guys on primetime television. Young guys getting an opportunity to taste what this NFL life is like."

Kelce played mostly coy when asked point blank about retirement, quipping first about playing the Powerball before telling reporters, "I’ll let that be a decision I’ll make with my family, friends, the Chiefs organization when the time comes."

Kelce's fiancƩe Taylor Swift was in attendance for the game, and watched from Kelce's suite alongside his mom, Donna Kelce.

On the Dec. 3 episode of New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, the tight end made an oversized comment about the Chiefs' chances to succeed this season. The tight end said he's "sure everyone is sick of us saying it," before claiming the then-6-6 Chiefs are "a few plays away from being a one seed in my mind."

Kelce said that the Chiefs are "holding teams at the right moment" but added that the team was "just not scoring enough."

"What's real is that we still have a chance, baby, and that's all that f---ing matters to me, is we got a chance and we keep coming into work with the mentality and the sense of urgency that we need to have to get the ship fixed," he said.

Kelce was clearly frustrated after their Nov. 16 loss, telling reporters he "could care less about" surpassing running back Priest Holmes’ record during the game. ā€œIf you’re going to ask me about the record, I could care less about that right now,ā€ Kelce said.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, meanwhile, said after the loss that he still thinks the Chiefs are "really talented" and have "a lot of great players," but need to be "more consistent" this season.

ā€œI think it starts with me," Mahomes, who is currently recovering from ACL surgery, continued. "There’s times where I’m firing and we’re moving the ball down the field at ease. But there’s times where we go in spurts where I miss a throw or a [pass] protection call. We haven’t been consistent enough to win games. It starts with me.ā€
