Kesha is speaking out in support of Kim Petras.

Petras got candid in a series of social media posts on Tuesday, Jan. 20 about feeling neglected by her record label and wanting the company to drop her, and Kesha then chimed in with a supportive message.

The two singers' interaction is significant. Petras is signed to Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald's Amigo Records through Republic Records, and Kesha previously sued Gottwald in 2014 based on allegations of sexual, emotional and physical abuse. [He denied the claims and countersued the same year. In 2016, her claims were dismissed by a judge. They settled his lawsuit out of court in 2023.]

"My album has been done for 6 months but my record label has refused to give me a release date or pay my collaborator’s for the work they’ve done," Petras claimed on X, alleging in a follow-up post that she "also filmed and self funded a music video over 2 months ago for my next single that they also wouldn’t give me a release date for."

"I’m tired of having no control over my own life or career," she continued on the platform. "I want to continue to self fund and self curate my own music. This is why I have formally requested to be dropped by @RepublicRecords."

In another post, Petras noted that she "won a Grammy two years ago" and claimed she continues to receive "no support" from the record label. "My fans have waited long enough. I love u guys," she said, adding that her upcoming album Detour is coming out "regardless."

Kesha responded to the "Unholy" singer's post about feeling as though she doesn't have control personally or professionally. "I spent many years fighting for the rights to myself," she began.

The "Praying" artist continued, "Watching another woman realize that the 'golden cage' is still a cage isn’t a victory—it’s a tragedy we have to stop repeating."

"Freedom isn’t a privilege; it’s a birthright. I hear you, I’m sorry Kim," added Kesha, who launched her own label, Kesha Records, in 2024 after finishing her long-held contract with Sony Music. She was previously signed to the company's RCA Records and Gottwald's Kemosabe label.

Petras responded with a heart emoji.

The pop star has had past tension with her label over album delays. Petras' album Problématique was shelved by the label in favor of Feed the Beast, which became her major-label debut album; Petras later released Problématique after Feed the Beast underperformed.

In a November 2025 interview with PEOPLE, Petras said she "did a few albums that felt like I was doing what people in the music industry wanted from me, and then I got punished for that as an artist."

The "Freak It" musician said she was accused of selling out for doing collaborations with high-profile artists like Nicki Minaj and David Guetta. She explained how her next album would respond to such claims.

“On this one, I just am pulling the curtain back and being like, ‘I know you think that I completely sold out, but I did it only so I could have creative freedom completely on a project like this and write it completely with friends and really be brave and do things that might not be digestible,’” she said. “And I'm down to get punished by my label and get no budget and work my ass off to make the visuals and do all of that for making music that I care about. And that was always my plan.”
