Stanley Tucci tells Entertainment Weekly he can't wait 20 years for another Devil Wears Prada sequel.

The actor admits he'll "be dead" if the studio doesn't sign off on a third film for another two decades.

"We have to do it sooner than that," Tucci says in an EW interview with his sister-in-law, Emily Blunt.

The world can only gird its collective loins for so long.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 star Stanley Tucci has admitted that the cast can't wait an additional 20 years for another potential sequel. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Tucci and fellow returning stars from the 2006 original — including Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, and Emily Blunt — reflect on the two-decade waiting period they endured to bring Miranda Priestly and her Runway magazine cohorts back to the big screen.

"I don’t think we can do it in another 20 years. We have to do it sooner than that, because I’ll be dead,” Tucci, 65, says as 43-year-old Blunt — his real-life sister-in-law — laughs.

Streep made similar comments when she and the rest of the cast and crew reunited for a 15-year anniversary interview with EW in 2021, during which they confirmed that a sequel was not currently in development. “I hope they don’t wait 20 years," the Oscar winner, 76, said with a laugh.

"We believe in letting a lot of time sizzle between these movies,” Blunt tells EW in a new interview, which earlier saw Tucci confirm that the cast made a pact not to return for the long-awaited sequel until the four main performers agreed to return together.

"There’s no point in doing it unless it's all four of us," he explains.

Director David Frankel, who also helmed the 2006 film, which made $327 million worldwide and earned two Oscar nominations, says that, in addition to the actors being at different points in their lives, their characters have also grown up since the first movie.

“[Miranda] is under fire the same way her business is under fire. She’s playing defense the entire time. Did we get any more clicks? What’s happening? Who owns this thing? Where is the financing coming from?" he says of the film's central plot, which sees Priestly navigating her legacy and professional future as Runway endures a scandal in the wake of a rapidly diversifying digital media landscape, prompting the return of her former assistant, Andy (Hathaway, now 43), to help save the business.

"Plus, ultimately, she’s 20 years older, and to me that was the fascinating thing," Frankel says. "What’s her legacy? How long does she do it, and where does she go from here?"

In addition to the aforementioned returning actors, Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman reprise their roles in the sequel. New cast additions include Justin Theroux, Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu, Rachel Bloom, Simone Ashley, Caleb Hearon, B.J. Novak, Patrick Brammall, and "Runway" soundtrack song performer Lady Gaga in a two-scene cameo.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is in theaters May 1.
